Have some extra apples you need to do something with? Instead of making apple sauce, why not make a simple apple crisp? Add this simple apple crisp topping to your apples. Once baked add a scoop of vanilla ice cream and you are ready to go!

Apple Crisp Topping Recipe

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup oats
  • 1/3 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup flour
  • 1/4 cup butter
  • 1 tsp cinnamon

Directions

Place the cold butter into a bowl and cut it up with two knives into small pieces. Add the brown sugar, flour, oats and cinnamon and with clean hands, rub the ingredients between your hands until crumbly. Sprinkle over your prepared apple crisp and bake at 375 F for 35 minutes.

To make the apple base: butter an oven proof dish and fill it 3/4 full with peeled and sliced apples. Add a little bit of water to the base of the dish (helps steam the apples) – about 1/4 to 1/2 inch depending on the size of your dish. You can sprinkle the apples with a bit of sugar and cinnamon if you want.
