This Crescent Canes Recipe is one of my favourite cookie recipes.  We used to have them at Christmas and other Holidays too – they are perfectly sized and textured just like shortbread. Nana always used margarine when she baked but these cookies are equally delicious if you choose to use butter instead!

Crescent Canes Cookie Recipe

Ingredients

  • 2 cups flour
  • 1 cup of margarine
  • 2/3 cup chopped nuts (pecans)
  • ½ cup icing sugar
  • ¼ tsp salt
  • ½ tsp vanilla

Directions

Cream margarine. Add icing sugar slowly, creaming well. Add salt and vanilla.  Sift flour and add.  Then add nuts.  Break off small pieces and roll into cookies (shape of crescent moon).  Put on un-greased pan. Bake for 10 minutes at 350 F.  When cool, roll in icing sugar.

Variation for Christmas: If you leave out the nuts and roll the dough into balls…you will have Christmas Shortbread cookies.  Put ½ cherry on top and bake the same as above.

Another variation is to add coconut to the cookies and do not roll in icing sugar.  Remember to half the sugar if you are using coconut.
