This homemade cake recipe was given to my Nana by her mother, Harriet. Harriet married twice, once to Isaac Hunt and after he passed, to Roy Davis. Harriet’s maiden name was Aston. Below is an image of Nana and her Mom in Timmins, Ontario. This was taken in the mid 1930s.
Grandma Davis’ Cake Recipe
Ingredients and Directions
One layer of pie pastry
One layer of cooked dates (cook using brown sugar and one cup of water)
One layer of white cake
Bake until cake is done (following cake baking instructions).
Ice with a thin layer of white icing.
(A modern tip: put dates in microwave to warm them to make it easier to cut them up small enough to make a paste)
